Live and act

Peter Brandt was a son of Christian Brandt, a citizen of Sønderborg, and his wife Margarethe. He grew up in modest circumstances and went to school in his hometown. He then moved on to Copenhagen via Norway. Here he worked as a "handwriter" for Colonel Ahlefeldt and then for Oberjägermeister Vincent Hahn. He recommended him in 1676 as paymaster for the treasury and the own chamber of the Danish royal family. In September 1676 Brandt also took over the war chest. In 1677 he was appointed paymaster of all treasuries. From 1678 he carried the title of chief paymaster.

In 1678 Brandt married Abigael Marie von Stöcken (* around 1881–1717), whose father Henrik von Stöcken was Brandt's superior as rentmaster. Stöcken supported his son-in-law, who was appointed chamber councilor in 1680. After the death of Henrik von Stöckens, Brandt took over his post as rentmaster and general war commissioner in 1681 . With that he was in charge of the finances of Denmark. In 1684 Brandt was appointed head pension master.

After the Danes had confiscated the lands of the Duke of Gottorf , Brandt received the title of bailiff of Tondern as a reward . He was considered a hardworking accountant in office, but was unable to restore the state finances due to the Danish-Swedish wars that fell during his term of office. The task was entrusted to Christian Siegfried von Plessen . Brandt resigned from his office in 1692 and instead worked as a privy councilor and advisor to King Christian V on several commissions. His coat of arms , issued in 1679, was recognized again in 1690.
