Danish-Swedish Wars
Wars between Denmark and Sweden have fought at several points in history. According to legend, the mythical Battle of Bråvalla in the 8th century was the first high point in the rivalries between Danes and Swedes . Modern Sweden broke away from the late medieval Kalmar Union only after several wars of independence ( Engelbrekt Uprising 1434–1436 , Danish-Swedish War 1464–1471 , Danish-Swedish War 1483–1497 , Danish-Swedish-Luebian War 1501–1512 , Swedish War of Liberation 1520-1523). These wars were also called Union Wars .
In the following, however, only those modern wars are listed that took place under Gustav Wasa from the 16th century after the consolidation of Sweden as a nation-state independent of Denmark . The armed conflicts between Danes and Swedes ended at the beginning of the 19th century, and a Pan-Scandinavian feeling of solidarity led to reconciliation in the middle of the 19th century.
