The island was formed around 4,500 BC. BC and consists of a plateau up to 40 meters high with a grassy cliff (Vens backafall) as a nature reserve . The island is home to a diverse flora , including the rose mallow .

Ven is 760 hectares (7.6 km²) and has about 370 people living in four villages:

  • Bäckviken (East)
  • Tuna By (north center)
  • Norreborg (North)
  • Kyrkbacken (West, with St. Ibb Church)

On the island there are several hotel complexes, a youth hostel (Vandrarhem) , a golf course and a campsite. There are daily ferry connections to and from Landskrona ( Ventrafik ). In the summer there are also ferries to and from Råå and Denmark. The island is visited by tens of thousands of day trippers during the season. For this reason alone there are 1200 rental bikes available.

Ven was known by the astronomical observations and research Tycho Brahe , who in 1576 with the island invested was. At that time (until the Peace of Copenhagen in 1660) the island was still part of Denmark. Brahe had Uraniborg and the Stjerneborg observatory built here, the remains of which were excavated at the beginning of the 20th century.

The asteroids (379) Huenna , (499) Venusia and (1678) Hveen are named after the island .
