In 1522, the Hanseatic city of Lübeck, led by its mayors Nikolaus Brömse and Hermann Plönnies, allied itself with the Swedish side. After the takeover of Stockholm in June 1523 by the Lübeck fleet, led by Plönnies and Berend Bomhover , Sweden was actually liberated. Swedish Finland was also liberated by September . With the Treaty of Malmö of September 1, 1524 , Sweden left the Kalmar Union.
