Hermann Plönnies (* in Münster ; † 1533 ibid) was a mayor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck .

Life

Plönnies became councilor in Lübeck in 1522 and in the same year, together with councilor Berend Bomhover, who also came from Münster, commanded the Lübeck fleet in support of Gustav Wasa , which took Stockholm in 1523 and thus ended the Swedish War of Liberation . The diary of this mission to Stockholm, which is extremely important for Swedish national historiography, is preserved in the archives of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck .

In 1529 Plönnies was appointed one of Lübeck's mayors . In this function he traveled with Joachim Gercken to the Hanseatic League in Bremen to negotiate with the Dutch.

On April 8, 1531 he left the city together with another mayor , Nikolaus Brömse , in protest against the entry into the Schmalkaldic League forced by the supporters of Jürgen Wullenwever and first went to Duke Albrecht VII of Mecklenburg . The letters they sent from there to the council , the citizens' committee of the 64 and the offices threatened the city with imperial anger. The anti-Reformation court of Emperor Charles V were both at Knights defeated. Plönnies died a little later in his hometown.

Plönnies was first married to Ida Greverade, daughter of Heinrich Greverade, niece of Adolf Greverade and widow of Hermann Papenborch. She died in 1522. In his second marriage he married Anna Witte, a daughter of the Lübeck mayor Heinrich Witte . He lived in the house at Königstrasse 41 in Lübeck and was the usufructuary of the Strecknitz estate . He had several children. A son of Heinrich Plönnies also became councilor and mayor of Lübeck; his daughter Mathilde Plönnies (* 1508) was briefly abbess of the Johanniskloster in Lübeck in 1584 in the last year of her life .

From 1522 he lived in the house at Königstrasse 22.

Annunciation altar

The Annunciation altar, created by Jacob van Utrecht in 1520/22, shows pictures of the founder Hermann Plönnies and his first wife on the inside of the outer wings. The coat of arms of the second wife can be found on the outside. He was formerly in the collection Reedtz-Thott on Gavnø Castle on the island Gavnø in Næstved on Zealand , was it for more than three decades in private ownership and since 2012 at St. Anne's Museum in Lübeck.

The whereabouts of a portrait of Hermann Plönnies made by Jacob van Utrecht in 1522 is unclear.

Crucifixion altar

The crucifixion altar (around 1520), ascribed to the master of the Schinkel retable , was also donated by Hermann Plönnies and shows him with his second wife on the inner wings. It is on loan from the St. Anne's Museum in the sacristy of the Jakobikirche and was revised by Jacob van Utrecht around 1525 .
