Heinrich Witte (Mayor)

Heinrich Witte († 1523 in Lübeck ) was mayor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.

Life

Heinrich Witte was elected to the City Council of Lübeck in 1496. In 1497 he accompanied councilor Tideman Berck on an embassy to Livonia , which had the goal of reopening the Hanseatic merchant's farm in Narva . In 1498 he represented Lübeck at the Hanseatic Congress in Bremen . In 1503 he was involved in the Lübeck negotiations with the Danish king in Segeberg and Lübeck. He also took part in the Lübeck Hanseatic Days in 1506, 1507 and 1511 as a representative of the council. In the period from 1508 to 1511 Witte was the town’s treasurer. In 1513 he was appointed one of the Lübeck mayors and in 1514 negotiated for the council with the mountain drivers . In 1517 he represented the interests of Lübeck together with the mayor Thomas von Wickede on the day of the Wendish cities in Stralsund . At the end of 1520 he withdrew from active political life.

His daughter Anna married the mayor of Lübeck, Hermann Plönnies .
