Uwe Albrecht (art historian)

Uwe Albrecht (born August 30, 1954 in Kiel ) is a German art historian and university professor .

Life

Uwe Albrecht studied art history, classical archeology and prehistory and early history at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel , the University of Poitiers and the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , where he obtained a doctorate in 1982 with a dissertation on French late medieval palace architecture. phil. received his doctorate. He was initially a research assistant at the Art History Institute of the University of Kiel and completed his habilitation there in 1989. Since 1991 he has been researching and teaching, initially as a private lecturer, and since 1995 as an associate professor at the University of Kiel.

Albrecht's two long-term research projects stand out among his numerous publications, catalogs and conference proceedings:

  • The development, jointly funded by the German Research Foundation and the Possehl Foundation , and the establishment of an online database together with the archeology and monument preservation department of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck for wall and ceiling painting in Lübeck houses from 1300-1800 , in which all known wall and ceiling paintings in Over 400 old houses in Lübeck's old town were recorded and documented as far as possible in images in order to serve as a work tool for Lübeck's monument preservation and to give researchers and the interested public an insight into the otherwise closed interiors of the Lübeck old town as a UNESCO World Heritage Site . This project ran from 2005 to 2010 and has been completed.
  • Since 1990, Albrecht has been running a large long-term basic research project on medieval wood sculpture and panel painting in northern Germany with the support of the DFG and other sponsors . The result of the work is the corpus of medieval wood sculpture and panel painting in Schleswig-Holstein (1200–1535) , consisting of eight volumes and approx. 1400 objects to be described , of which the two Lübeck volumes have been published since 2005 and Volume III Schleswig. Schloss Gottorf was published in 2016.
