Hohenzoller Historical Society

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In 1867 the Association for History and Archeology was established in Hohenzollern with the intention of “collecting and publishing material for a history of Hohenzollern in a comprehensive sense, but also to make known other historically remarkable material that can be found in Hohenzollern.” are the goals of the association's statutes, which were adopted at the founding meeting on April 15, 1867 in Sigmaringen . Since 1890 the association has been a member of the general association of German history and antiquity associations . In 1933 the name was changed to the Association for History, Culture and Regional Studies of Hohenzollern , which was intended to signal an expansion of the association's goals, which the new board of directors Ernst Senn (1884–1962) pursued to set up an independent Hohenzollern regional research. After the Second World War, the association was re-established on July 30, 1948 in Sigmaringen. Since 1965 it has been known as the Hohenzoller Historical Society . Today (2015) the association has around 600 members. In addition to the publications for which he is responsible, he organizes lectures, guided tours and excursions. The club archive, which is maintained in the Sigmaringen State Archive, documents the club's history and collects historical documents, especially from members' estates. The association library in the Hohenzollerische Heimatbücherei in Hechingen, founded in 1930 on the initiative of Ernst Senn, has been affiliated with the Southwest German Library Network since 2016 .

  2. At the end of 1933 the association left the entire association after its new board member, Willy Hoppe, in September 1933 demanded a commitment to National Socialism and the introduction of the leader principle in the member associations. Membership was then renewed in the early 1950s.
