The overall association of German history and ancient societies is an umbrella organization in which some working in Germany, historical societies , historical commissions, local historical institutes, etc. together. Johannes Mötsch has been the chairman of the umbrella association since 2019 .

Club history

The association was founded in 1852. The then founder of the Germanic National Museum , Hans von und zu Aufseß , and Prince Johann von Sachsen , at the time chairman of the Royal Saxon Antiquities Association, played a significant role in the establishment of the museum . The aim of the new association was

"... to emphasize the unity of German history in its entirety by merging the historians of many territories, landscapes and cities and thus to stimulate research into national and regional history."

The sheets for German national history are published by the general association of German history and antiquity associations . The magazine appears annually.

The National History Day has been held since 1968.
