Hokkaidō Komagatake

Hokkaidō Koma-ga-take

The Hokkaidō Koma-ga-take (Japanese 北海道 駒 ヶ 岳) is a 1131 m high stratovolcano in the sub-prefecture of Oshima on the island of Hokkaidō , Japan. After about 5000 years without seismic activity, the volcano began to quake in the early 17th century. Its outbreak in 1640 triggered the Great Kan'ei Famine , which left at least 50,000 lives.
