history
The Hollycombe Narrow Gauge Railway was established in 1967 using equipment from the Dinorwic slate quarry in North Wales . The quarry had shortly before the operation of its extensive works railway, whereupon Commander Baldock acquired the steam locomotive Jerry M along with a lot of tracks and several cars. Construction began in 1968 and reached the sandstone quarry in 1971. The narrow-gauge railway was later expanded to include a loop that brought the track length to 2.4 km. The second steam locomotive, Caledonia , was acquired in 1968.
Four of the five passenger cars were acquired when the Ramsgate Cliff Railway was closed; The fifth car was built in Hollycombe to the same design.
