history

A National Socialist opened a bookstore in San Francisco in April 1977. According to newspaper reports, this facility was destroyed by 50 survivors of Hitler's concentration camps . On this occasion, survivors of the Holocaust and exiles of the Third Reich came together and founded the Committee of Remembrance together with the Jewish Community Relations Council. In 1979 the Committee created the "Holocaust Library and Research Center", a permanent institution for events, education and documentation relating to the Holocaust. In 1986 it was renamed the "Holocaust Center of Northern California".

Since March 1, 2001, Leslie Kane has been the director of the institute. She originally worked as a lawyer and in marketing. For personal reasons, she moved to the HCNC despite a pay cut. Under its board of directors, the HCNC tries to inform both children and adults about the issues of the Holocaust and discrimination.

The Austrian Memorial Service has been working with the Holocaust Center for several years and has so far provided the organization with three so-called memorial servants .
