Holstebro Cup

The Holstebro Cup is an annual handball tournament for young people. Since the tournament was first held, it has been the largest of its kind in Denmark.

Tournament days

Since the first tournament, the cup has traditionally been held over the four days of Easter ( Maundy Thursday , Good Friday , Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday ), with only the arrival and opening ceremony taking place on Thursday, which is due to the fact that the teams come from different countries and therefore different vacation days but Easter is days off in all participating countries.

procedure

  • Thursday: Arrival, opening ceremony with mayor and other show entertainment in Gråkjær Arena
  • Friday: preliminary round matches
  • Saturday: Cup games according to the KO system, player disco
  • Sunday: finals, award ceremony

Venues

Since a total of 300–350 teams play at least 5 games each, it is not possible to move them all into one hall, which is why a total of 21 halls in and around Holstebro are used to host the games.

accommodation

Since around 3000–4000 players, coaches, parents and other handball enthusiasts have to be accommodated, schools in Holstebro and the surrounding area are also used here to provide accommodation for players and coaches. In addition, parents and other spectators can take a room in a hotel or youth hostel.

transport

Each team is responsible for their own journey to Holstebro. A total of 10 buses run between the individual halls on 5 different lines every 20 minutes, between 6 a.m. and around 8 p.m., which can be freely used by the players and coaches.

Special features of the rules

resin

Unlike in Germany, in Denmark (including the Holstebro Cup) it is allowed to play with Harz / Cheek.

Resin is used to give the player more grip on the ball

Number of players

Unlike in Germany, only 12 instead of the "German" 14 people are allowed on the player form for the Holstebro Cup .
