Home Movie Day

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Home Movie Day is an annual event that is dedicated to amateur and private film on analog film material . On this day, cine films will be shown to the public in selected cinemas . It was founded in 2002 by film archivists in the United States who were concerned about the preservation of classic films. This day established itself in several countries and usually takes place on the same date.

The Home Movie Day provides an opportunity individuals to present their amateur films to a wider audience. At the same time, a sensitization for the preservation of the material film should be achieved. Part of the Home Movie Day concept is to convey a professional assessment of how to preserve the images. It offers the opportunity to discover personal documents as historical and to receive advice from professional conservators and archivists for improved storage, digitization - in the sense of easier access - and the like. As part of the Home Movie Day , three films have already been handed over to the holdings of the Library of Congress in Washington.

The first Home Movie Day took place on August 16, 2003. In 2008, the date was set to the second Saturday in October. It was first carried out in Switzerland on October 26, 2012.
