content

The first lines paint the picture of a young man who finds himself in the place of sadness, the Home of the Blues . It is said that this place is at the end of the road that losers go and gets there after struggling through tears.

The rest of the song also describes a sad picture. The protagonist sings that he is fighting his way through mud and dirt in a place where the sun never shines. The place is also associated with bittersweet memories, and if he has to give up his dreams, he wants to die. In the Home of the Blues all who mourn are welcome.

Cast, production and publication

In addition to Cash (vocals and rhythm guitar), Luther Perkins (lead guitar) and Marshall Grant (bass), background singers and a subtle piano can be heard. Cash sings the piece deeper than his other Sun songs.

Clement had taken over the production of the song at the request of Sam Phillips , because he wanted to take care of Jerry Lee Lewis more . Home of the Blues was released as Sun single 279 in August 1957. As B-side, Clement chose the country ballad Give My Love to Rose , which was still produced by Phillips.

The single reached number 3 on the country charts and number 5 on the C&W bestseller charts. On the Billboard Hot 100 , the piece took 88th place.

The film Walk the Line and own new recordings

Cash actor Joaquin Phoenix re-recorded the song for the biographical feature film Walk the Line .

In 1988, Cash took on the album Classic Cash: Hall of Fame Series for Mercury old hits and classics. Home of the Blues was one of the eight Sun songs .
