Homologous pair

A homologous chromosome is in diploid a pair of similar organisms chromosomes . The two chromosomes contain mostly the same genes . In the case of sexual reproduction , one of the two chromosomes comes from the father or from the mother of the individual. During meiosis , the chromosomes of a homologous pair are superimposed on each other. This ensures that both daughter cells of the reduction division receive a complete set of haploid chromosomes.
