Hook head
Hook Head ( Irish Rinn Duáin ) is the name of a peninsula on the east bank of Waterford Harbor in County Wexford , Republic of Ireland , and the lighthouse at its top . In good weather, the lighthouse can be seen from the fishing village of Dunmore East on the opposite side of the entrance to Waterford Harbor . The peninsula is also a popular destination due to its numerous small and large beaches. From the city of Waterford to the west, the lighthouse can be reached via the ferry at Passage East.

The beacon was built in the 13th century on a settlement originally founded by monks, making it one of the oldest in Europe and the oldest in Ireland. The lighthouse top was placed on top of the up to three meter thick foundation masonry in 1810. The walls are made of limestone . Two to three lighthouse keepers lived in the lighthouse with their families. Houses would later be built near the lighthouse, since then the lighthouse has not been inhabited.
In November 1974 a radar beacon was installed. The identifier is the letter "K" in Morse code.
The tower was automated in 1996. The lighthouse has been open to the public since 2001. The buildings of the former lighthouse keepers now serve as a visitor center.
The foghorn was last heard in January 2011, after which it was deactivated because modern technology on board the ships had made it obsolete.
The operator is the Commissioners of Irish Lights , who remotely control the lighthouse from Dún Laoghaire .
Today's lens is a third order Fresnel lens . The signature is a flash of white light every three seconds. The light is visible 23 nautical miles (42.6 kilometers).
