The authority Commissioners of Irish Lights ( CIL ) ( German commissioner for Irish beacons , Irish Coimisinéirí Soilse na hÉireann ) is responsible for the lighthouses and shipping signs in Ireland and Northern Ireland as well as the offshore islands and adjacent waters.
The headquarters are at the port of Dún Laoghaire , south of Dublin .
General
The Commissioners of Irish Lights is next to Trinity House and Northern Lighthouse Board, the third authority ( English General Lighthouse Authority ) for lighthouses and navigation signs in the British Isles . She also oversees the beacons and navigational aids used by local port authorities .
The work is funded from the General Lighthouse Fund , which is administered by the UK Department for Transport . The income comes from port dues and an annual grant from the Irish government.
The automated lighthouses are monitored from the headquarters in Dún Laoghaire. For maintenance and repair work the staff is mostly from helicopters brought to the stations. The Granuaile has been the only buoy laying machine since 2000 .
