Horse Stories
Horse Stories is a music project founded in 2001, the line-up of which varies. It was brought into being by the Australian musician Toby Burke , who in addition to the main project 'Horse Stories' also pursues other solo projects.
The band has released three studio albums and one maxi LP so far. The debut album Traveling Mercies (for troubled Paths) , which was initially self-distributed in 2001 and released on the independent label 'Loose Music' in 2002 , received an excellent rating from the music magazine Rolling Stone . The magazine's conclusion: "After these ten songs you just long for more."
The musical style of the band has not changed on the two follow-up albums One Hundred Waves (2003) and Everyone's a Photographer (2005): The pieces are consistently in the mid-tempo, harmonious and with two acoustic guitars, drums and harmonica (without bass guitar ) recorded. Both records received favorable reviews from UNCUT , Mojo and New Musical Express . After the latest album, Toby Burke was named "songwriters to watch" by Rolling Stone in 2006.
Burke always named Paul Kelly as the most influential musical role model . The style of Burke's music is compared to that of Elliott Smith , Roddy Frame or Jeff Buckley .
