The Hospital Block , also known as the Old Hospital Block , is a three-story brick building in the inner fortress ring of the Tower of London . It serves as the residence for four employees of the Tower of London. Like every building in the Tower, it is protected as an independent monument, together with the terrace in front of the building and the iron grating attached to it.

The building originally consisted of two houses. These were built by the Board of Ordnance in 1718 at a cost of £ 3000 to house four Board of Ordnance employees. During the Crimean War , the two houses were combined into one building. It got its current name when war invalids were housed there.

During the Second World War , German prisoners of war, mostly submarine crews, were temporarily housed here before they were relocated to camps in the north of England. The last of these prisoners left the tower in May 1940. The Germans thus escaped the German aerial bombs that partially destroyed the hospital block in September 1940. The north wing of the building was then torn down.
