The Hotel Florhof is a hotel in the center of the city of Zurich . It is housed in the listed building on the lower Schönenberg . The name Florhof goes back to the name of the Florhof complex , which comprises several buildings and served as a production facility for textiles, namely pile and muslin , from the 17th century . The Florhof is the last remaining “Seidenhof” in the city of Zurich.

The building

As early as the 16th century, a building with a practically identical facade stood on the site of the Zum lower Schönenberg house , as can be seen from a city view from 1576. The current building was built in 1763 for the patrician family by Hans-Felix Oeri-Lavater. The family was involved in the silk manufacture and produced foil silk and pile. In 1907 the house was converted into the Florhof guesthouse . The boarding house maintained by Mrs. Michel-Amberger was in Florhofgasse next to the patrician house rented by the surgeon Ferdinand Sauerbruch around 1911, where he lived with his family and had a private practice. Michel-Amberger's four sons all went into the hotel business. Renovations were carried out in 1940/41, 1973/74 and 2005/06, two junior suites were added and from July to October 2014 it was completely refreshed. It has been a listed building since 1974.

The hotel

Since the renovation in 1907, the house has been in operation as a hotel. Today the Hotel Florhof is a boutique hotel with 32 rooms, a restaurant and a lounge. The interior design combines historical style elements such as an old tiled stove with a contemporary design. In 2006 and 2008, it was named the best hotel in its category in Switzerland by the business magazine Bilanz .
