In textile technology , pile refers to fibers that protrude from the fabric.

In suede , velvet , plush , tufted , real knotting rugs and other pile fabrics or knitted fabrics with three-dimensional structure, the thread system , which extends perpendicular to the surface, as a pile or pole , respectively.
