Hotel Mille
The former inn and hotel Mille is a monument in Eisenach in Thuringia . It is located at Johannisplatz 16 in Eisenach city center. With its strikingly protruding corner of the building, it shapes the image of the south side of Johannisplatz.
history
The house was built in 1860/61 and opened as a restaurant and hotel on December 16, 1881 by Ferdinand Miller. After several changes of ownership, the hotel came into the possession of the Thuringian Property and Asset Management GmbH on October 1, 1949 , which belonged to the Socialist Unity Party of Germany . In 1950/51, they converted the building into a clubhouse for the municipal utility company (KWU). From 1955 it served as the cultural center of the council of the Eisenach district and from October 1955 of the VEB Aufa (later FER ). From December 1958, marriages took place in the building, and in 1966 a women's meeting place was opened. The hotel's bowling alley was in use until the early 1990s. The building had stood empty and fell into disrepair since the 1990s.
In mid-2013, the city advised security measures to stop the building from falling into disrepair. In September 2013, the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments approved a partial demolition of the rear parts of the building as well as the neighboring building Johannisplatz 14, which is also listed.
The securing and renovation of the building began in autumn 2014. The rear building, the roof as well as the back wall, which was infested with dry rot, and the false ceilings were largely removed and replaced; the front and the vaulted cellar remained, in accordance with the requirements of the monument protection. After the renovation is complete, the building will serve as the headquarters of a software company. An extension was built in the area of the rear building and a residential and commercial building in place of the demolished neighboring building, Johannisplatz 14.
