The Hotel Platengarten is an ensemble of buildings on the Schlossplatz in Ansbach ( Bavaria ). The historic building is opposite the margravial residence of Ansbach , the residence of the former margrave of Ansbach. At the back it borders on the courtyard garden. The left part of the building - Promenade 30 - is the former cavalier and kitchen master's house. It still houses guest rooms with historical furniture. There is a very detailed antique relief in the wide gate to the courtyard. The house still has the typical mansard roof .

history

In 1737 the master chef and mouth cook Aegidius Michael Leitner was granted caterer justice by his high princely highness Carl Wilhelm Friedrich , Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach (called the Wilde Margrave). Since then, in his house on Paradeplatz, he has not only been able to feed and accommodate the gentlemen of the court as before, but also citizens and strangers.

Platengarten

After the death of the poet August Graf von Platen-Hallermünde , who was born in Ansbach , a monument made of ore was erected to the poet in 1860 by his friends and admirers with the contribution of King Maximilian II . The poet stands in front of the viewer in contemporary clothing, with a pen in his right hand and a book in his left hand without a hat.

The statue was modeled by Halbig and cast by Miller's expert hand in the royal ore foundry in Munich. The original substructure of Kelheim dolomite did not hold up well and was renewed in 1887. The adjoining inn was named “Platengarten” in 1865 after the Platen monument that was built on the left across the street. The tavern sign still contains the coat of arms of the Counts of Platen with the three roses.

Historical water law

The Platengarten is connected to the historic margravial tube trips, more precisely to the branch "Kaltenklinger tube", which includes the source area in the area of today's Ansbach Clinic. In the 17th century, the historic old town of Ansbach was supplied with water from the foothills of the Frankenhöhe with process and drinking water. The widely ramified oak pipe system still exists today, but it can no longer be used for the drinking water supply. The water pipes are maintained today by the Free State of Bavaria as the legal successor to the Margraviate Brandenburg-Ansbach. In the Lindenhof of the Platengarten, the well water feeds a fish basin.
