Landmarks of modern Kiev |
The Hotel Salyut ( Ukrainian Готель “Салют” ) is a hotel building in the Ukrainian capital Kiev . The design language of the building, which attracts a lot of attention, makes it a landmark of modern Kiev.
Surname
The cylindrical, futuristic-looking hotel is named after a series of Soviet space stations that were in use from 1971 to 1986 and had a cylinder as the central module, as this motif can also be found in the structure of the building.
Building history
The original design of the hotel was five stories higher, but was not approved by the USSR leadership. As a "slimmed-down" version, the building was constructed between 1982 and 1984 by a team of architects led by the Ukrainian architect Abraham Milezkyj, reflecting the spirit of Soviet futurism and constructivism .
location
Located between the Arsenalna Metro Station and the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra on the Iwana-Masepy -Straße ( вул. Івана Мазепи ) 11b in the quarter- Pechersk of the Kiev Stadtrajon Pechersk . The location is in a sensitive urban area on the Dnepr high bank on the edge of the city to the park zone, which is why the construction was not without controversy. The hotel appears larger than it actually is with its 90-room capacity.
