The Hotel Tiefenbrunner in Kitzbühel goes back to a beer brewery that once existed in today's hotel area. The name of the hotel was first mentioned in the 13th century and comes from the name of a long-established family of innkeepers from Kössen . Georg Tiefenbrunner, son of a local innkeeper and trained beer brewer, came to Kitzbühel in 1690, acquired this brewery in 1691 and became a Kitzbühel citizen. Even then, the brewery-inn owned a large agricultural property between the hamlet of Ecking and Lebenberg Castle . In 1710 Georg Tiefenbrunner was awarded a coat of arms. Up to 1800, three generations of Tiefenbrunners had lived here.

The sale of Martin Tiefenbrunner's house to Josef Stainer - an ancestor of the current owner - became official on December 22, 1810.

The Gasthof Tiefenbrunner already gained a good reputation in the early days of tourism. When Archduke Johann came to Kitzbühel on his last trip to Tyrol in 1858, he and his adjutant stayed at the "Tiefenbrunner". In the oldest guest book still preserved in the house, the entry by the imperial prince from September 14, 1858 is the first of this book.
