House of Kinnaber

House of Kinnaber , also known as Kinnaber House , is a mansion near the Scottish town of Montrose in the Council Area Angus . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A. The associated pigeon tower is also classified as a category B structure, as is the ice house. The gardens, on the other hand, are a category C monument.

history

The mansion was built in 1680. The tower was believed to have been added in the early 18th century, while House of Kinnaber was extensively redesigned in the 1790s. The record shows that the manor house had a tower on the southeast side before 1790, which is no longer preserved today. The entrance area was redesigned in the 20th century.

description

House of Kinnaber is 1.5 km north of Montrose near the right bank of the North Esk off the A92 . The three-story building has an L-shaped floor plan. The east-facing main facade is five axes wide. The protruding entrance area surrounds the original architrave entrance door. A rounded tower emerges on the northeast edge to the right. A similar tower on the northwest edge was probably added in the early 18th century. The interior largely corresponds to the revision from the 1790s. A triplet window was used on the south and west facades .
