The North Esk is a river in the Scottish council areas of Angus and Aberdeenshire .

The river is formed by the confluence of the Water of Lee and Water of Mark streams at an altitude of 250 m in the sparsely populated, rural areas of the Grampians about two kilometers east of Loch Lee . The North Esk flows east for the first twelve kilometers and then turns to the southeast. The North Esk finally flows into the North Sea about two kilometers north of Montrose . He covers a total of 47 km. From a point about four kilometers north of Edzell to its mouth, the North Esk forms the border between the regions of Angus and Aberdeenshire and the historic areas of Forfarshire and Kincardineshire . About five kilometers south is the mouth of the South Esk . On the left bank is the Colmeallie stone circle .
