The Huangguoshu waterfall ( Chinese 黃果樹 瀑布 / 黄果树 瀑布 , Pinyin Huánguǒshù pùbù ) is located near the city of Anshun in the Chinese province of Guizhou and is considered the largest waterfall in China and Asia. It is located in the middle of the Huangguoshu National Park named after him .
The waterfall
The Huangguoshu Waterfall is 74 meters high and 101 meters wide. It is located 45 kilometers southwest of the city of Anshun . Behind the water curtain of the fall is a system of caves that can be used to get from one side of the waterfall to the other. It is the most popular travel destination in the province. The amount of water in the waterfall varies greatly depending on the season. Over 9 to 10 months of the year, the average amount of water falling here is around 20 m³ per second. After heavy rains, the water volume can swell to several hundred m³ per second.
The Huangguoshu Waterfall is part of a series of waterfalls in the Baishui River , which is a tributary of the Wujiang River .
On January 30, 2019, the People's Republic of China added the area around the Huangguoshu Waterfall to its list of proposals for UNESCO World Natural Heritage .
The water curtain cave
The water curtain cave named "Shuiliandong" (水帘洞) is a 134 m long, naturally shaped cave that is located behind the waterfall. It is believed that this is the habitat of Sun Wukong , the protagonist of the Buddhist fantasy literature Journey to the West .
