Hubert Chantraine

Hubert Chantraine (born January 17, 1945 in Lontzen ) is a Belgian doctor and former politician of the Christian Social Party of the German-speaking Community of Belgium .

Live and act

In addition to his job, the qualified specialist in gynecology and obstetrics was politically active in the Christian Social Party, which he chaired from 1995 to 1999. For his party, he won a direct seat on the city council of Eupen in 1995 .

In July of the same year he resigned his city council mandate after he had been accepted as a member of the parliament of the German-speaking community . He retained this mandate until 2004, where he served as joint senator in the Belgian Senate from 1995 to 1999 . During this time Chantraine was sent from 1995 to 1997 as a delegate and from 1997 to 1999 as a deputy delegate to the "Advisory Interparliamentary Benelux Council ".

After the turn of the millennium, Chantraine returned to local politics and was re-elected to the city parliament of Eupen from 2001 to 2010. He then withdrew from active politics.

As a private person, Chantraine is involved in various ways for Christian social issues. Among other things, he is one of the co-founders of the Kiwanis Club Eupen, which was founded in 1987, and was its president in its first year of existence. He is also a member of the Eupen Kevelaer Association, with which he has been participating in the annual Kevelaer pilgrimage for more than 50 years .

Honors

In 2004, Chantraine was honored with the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Leopold for his diverse political services . In addition, after his 50th participation in the Kevelaer pilgrimage, he received the Benemerenti Papal Merit Medal .
