Hubert Sowa

Hubert Sowa (* 1954 in Bamberg ) is a German art teacher and art didactician. He is a professor emeritus for art and its didactics at the Pedagogical University of Ludwigsburg .

life and work

Hubert Sowa studied at the State University of Fine Arts in Braunschweig as well as at the Technical University of Braunschweig and the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, where he completed a degree in art history, art education and philosophy. He did his doctorate under Manfred Riedel with a thesis on Martin Heidegger's philosophy of art . From 1980 to 2002 Hubert Sowa was an art teacher at various high schools. From 2002 to 2020 Sowa was professor for art and its didactics at the Pedagogical University of Ludwigsburg.

Hubert Sowa is a founding member of the "IMAGO - Research Association for Art Education". He is also co-editor of various art educational publications and series of works, among others. a. from "KUNST + UNTERRICHT" (since 2002), from "Art Education in the Project of General Education" (2007), the KUNSTBildatlas and the textbook "KUNST" in Klett-Schulbuchverlag (since 2007) as well as the series "IMAGO - Research Association Art Education" im kopaed-Verlag (since 2014).

Research and Teaching

Hubert Sowa researches and publishes on the theory of aesthetic existence, on curricular structures in art education, on image didactics, on the formation of the imagination, on children's and youth drawing, on image hermeneutics and on world art education.
