Hoofbeat (sound)

The hoofbeat is the hitting of the hooves while the horse is walking and therefore the noise that is caused by it. Various information can be obtained from the hoofbeat, e.g. E.g. about the gait of a horse (two-stroke: trot; three-stroke with pause: gallop; four-stroke: step), possible lameness due to imprecise timing and the condition of the horseshoes ' attachment , which cause a slightly lingering, metallic noise when they are loose.
