Hugo Lindo
Hugo Lindo Olivares (born October 13, 1917 in La Unión , † September 9, 1985 in San Salvador ) was a Salvadoran writer, diplomat and politician.
Lindo studied law and social sciences at the Universidad de El Salvador and graduated in 1948 with a doctorate. His dissertation was awarded a gold medal. He traveled to Korea as a diplomat in 1947 and was ambassador to Chile from 1952 to 1959 and then to Colombia until 1960. In 1961 he became Minister of Education. He gave up this position and took over the management of the office for cultural affairs of the Organización de Estados Centroamericanos . From 1969 to 1972 he was Salvadoran Ambassador to Spain, from 1979 to 1985 Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Universidad Dr. José Matías Delgado .
As a writer, Lindo became a central figure in the Salvadoran literary scene with poems, short stories and novels. He was elected a member of the Academia Salvadoreña de la Lengua and was a corresponding member of the academies in Spain, Chile, Colombia and Honduras.
The lyricist, storyteller, playwright and essayist Ricardo Lindo Fuentes was a son of Lindo.
