Human Rights Party (United States)

Human Rights Party ( HRP ) was a left-wing political party in the US state of Michigan in the 1970s.

The party achieved election victories in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti in the 1970s . The party expanded to various other cities in Michigan. In 1975 the HRP became the Socialist Human Rights Party and later the party merged with the Socialist Party of Michigan .

The party was founded in 1970 under the leadership of Zoltan Ferency . In 1972 two candidates from the party were elected to Ann Arbor City Council. With the end of the civil rights movement in the late 1970s, the party lost popularity in the United States.
