Humban

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Humban , also Khumban or Ḫumban , was an Elamite god. Humban is considered to be the ruler of the sky, especially since he was the son of the Elamite sky god Jabru. This can possibly be inferred from the fact that Humban was equated with the Mesopotamian god Enlil , lord of the sky and son of the sky god An . The Elamite Jabru was equated with An. In Mesopotamian mythology, Humban was received as Huwawa / Humbaba , the guardian of the cedar forest in the Gilgameš epic . However, this development must be viewed separately from the Elamite god Humban. Humban was still venerated in Achaemenid times when Elam had long since belonged to the Persian Empire .
