A dog bomb is a firecracker , similar to a Knallerbse who in the 1910s was driven and cyclists to defend against attacking dogs should serve.

The article was offered by the mail order company and bicycle dealer Stukenbrok . Dog bombs were advertised as “the best protection against the harassment of dogs, consisting of slightly explosive, but completely harmless substances. All you have to do is throw the dog bombs on the ground. ”The bang that occurs on contact with the ground should trigger an instinct to flee in the attacking dogs . According to the dealer, injuries to the dog or humans were excluded. Dog bombs were available in "boxes" of 50 for 1.30 marks each , which were intended to be carried in a trouser pocket.

In addition to the “dog bombs for cyclists”, “dog bombs for motorists” were also offered in a larger version, which caused a loud bang. These were available in boxes of ten each. Five boxes cost 1.80 marks.

The dog cannon was a special form of the dog bomb . This was either seven or ten centimeters long and attached to a yellow cord with which it could be hung on the bicycle handlebar. To use it, it was pulled off the cord and thrown towards the dog. ("If you want to shoot the cannon, it is sufficient to pull it off and throw it at the dog, it will then explode like a shot in the next second."). The dog cannons were in the designs "whirlwind with a bang", "fire snake with a bang", "cyclist whistle", "flare-ball bouquets (green, red)", "comet silver tail with a bang", "flare ball bouquets (white and blue) “Available.
