Dog tag

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dog tags or dog control tags refer to a tag usually made of metal for identifying domestic dogs . There are two main variants of these brands, depending on the region:

  • Either this mark is used to prove that the dog tax has been paid for the dog in question . In many cities and towns, it is compulsory to attach the tag to the dog's collar.
  • Or this brand serves as an identity brand. It is partly required (especially in Austria and Switzerland) by relevant legal regulations , but many dog owners also voluntarily and privately attach a corresponding mark with their telephone number or address to the collar so that an animal that has run away or is found dead can be assigned to its owner. In addition to the classic brand made of sheet metal, screw-on capsules or similar small containers are also widespread, in which a corresponding note is housed.

In the soldiers' jargon , the term dog tag ( english dog tag ) to refer to the identification tag used.
