HyperTerminal

HyperTerminal is a communication program that starting with version 2.0 with Windows - the operating system was supplied. HyperTerminal is based on the HyperACCESS program and has been licensed to Microsoft by Hilgraeve .

HyperTerminal can be used if a dial-up connection to a mainframe computer or a mailbox server is to be established with a modem . The program then fulfills the function of a terminal emulation program .

In addition, it is also possible to use HyperTerminal to establish connections between computers that are directly connected to one another via the serial interfaces (e.g. between a desktop PC and a portable computer). It is also possible to control external devices (e.g. scientific instruments and robots) via the serial interface using HyperTerminal.

As of Windows Vista , HyperTerminal is no longer part of Windows. However, there is the possibility of a chargeable download to upgrade the program. Alternatively, there are also free open source terminal programs, such as PuTTY , which offer a similar range of functions.
