Hypergenitalism
As hypergenitalism refers to an excessive or premature development of the primary and secondary sexual characteristics. The opposite of hypergenitalism is hypogenitalism .
In some publications, premature puberty is listed under the term pubertas praecox and not under hypergenitalism, so that only genitals that are too large fall under hypergenitalism.
etiology
Hypergenitalism is hormonal . An overproduction of sex hormones , but also an excessive intake of corresponding hormones from outside, can lead to hypergenitalism in children. The pineal gland secretes epiphyseal hormones that have an inhibitory effect on gonadal maturation in children. Therefore, malfunction or destruction of the pineal gland can lead to hypergenitalism.
Hypergenitalism as a symptom
In the very rare leprechaunism (Donohue syndrome), hypergenitalism is one of the symptoms.
