The hypogeum of Torre del Ram is located northwest of Ciutadella on the Balearic island of Menorca . It is located in the northeast of the village of Torre del Ram in a residential area at the intersection of Avenida Tramuntana and Calle Gregal.

description

The hypogeum dates from the pre-Talayotic period (1600–1400 BC) and is an artificial cave (Cueva).

It has a 2.6 m long stair-like entrance with a short 1.55 m wide anteroom. The access is protected at the top by a kind of dome made of large natural stones. The chamber, cut into the rock, is 8.8 m long, 2.5 m wide and 1.95 m high. It is rectangular and has a trapezoidal cross-section. Your ceiling is flat. A low bench runs all the way along the walls, including the apse, which is only drawn in at the top . Apart from rock carvings of an unknown date, showing three sailing ships and other unidentified figures, no finds have been made.

The hypogeum of Torre del Ram is protected as an archaeological monument ( Monument arqueològic ). The current registration number at the Spanish Ministry of Culture is RI-55-0008552. It is one of the 32 archaeological sites that Spain officially proposed on January 14, 2016 as " Talayotic Culture of Menorca " for inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List . The World Heritage Committee postponed the application at its 41st meeting in July 2017 and requested improvements.
