As hypotrichosis (from Latin. Hypotrichosis ) refers to a reduced number of hair due to hair loss , growth disorders, disorders of moulting , ectoparasites or malformation ( Hypotrichosis congenita hereditaria ). The term alopecia is occasionally used for this , although the latter in the narrower sense means a complete lack of hair in a certain area.

A hypotrichosis is externally recognizable without special examinations. Trichograms are used to determine the cause, and skin scrapings are used in the case of parasite infestation .

Hypotrichoses can occur in the context of syndromes , e.g. B. in hypotrichosis with juvenile macular dystrophy , cranioectodermal dysplasia or Nicolaides-Baraitser syndrome .
