The IBM house was an office building by Dieter Oesterlen , which was located in Hanover on Hamburger Allee in the List district. It was built between 1967 and 1969 for the IT company IBM and demolished in 2013.

history

The IBM house was an office building with facades made of exposed aggregate concrete with small balconies and horizontal bands as well as a small forecourt. It housed a training wing, an office wing set back by five meters and an entrance wing set back again. 34,000 cubic meters were built. Around 250 IBM employees worked in the building until around 2005. The owner of the building could not be reached and during the years of vacancy the area degenerated into an industrial wasteland . The building contained open- plan offices, among other things .

The no longer used building was controversial. While residents feel annoyed by alcoholics and drug users who gathered on the property around the building and real estate agents pleaded for the demolition of the no longer usable house, inclusion in the list of architectural monuments in Hanover was discussed. The IBM house corresponds to a new type of administrative building and had an influence on the design of the state girokasse in Stuttgart by Günter Behnisch .

The property was newly built with residential and office buildings as well as a hotel.
