IDCAMS

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

IDCAMS is a utility program under the mainframe operating system IBM - z / OS for creating and managing VSAM and non-VSAM files or GDGs .

With IDCAMS, system specialists can also administer catalogs . In the past, the IBM 3850 mass storage subsystem was also managed using IDCAMS.

As usual with IBM programs, the name is made up of a three-character prefix IDC and the abbreviation AMS (for Access Method Services ).

IDCAMS can be carried out in a batch job using JCL . Another possibility is the call from a user program. Here it is possible to handle the standard input (SYSIN) and standard output (SYSPRINT) with their own subroutines instead of files.

Furthermore, all IDCAM commands can be carried out directly as TSO commands.

An example:

//STEP0001 EXEC PGM=IDCAMS
//SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=*
//SYSIN    DD *
  LISTCAT LEVEL(SYS1) ALL
