The IEEE 854 standard (ANSI / IEEE Std 854-1987, Standard for Radix-Independent Floating-Point Arithmetic ) defines standard representations for base -independent floating-point numbers in computers and specifies precise procedures for performing mathematical operations, especially for rounding . Only one of the two values 2 or 10 is allowed as a basis .

The IEEE 854 standard no longer exists independently, but has been incorporated into the IEEE 754-2008 , the revision of the IEEE 754-1989 standard.
