The Instituto de Gestão do Património Arquitectónico e Arqueológico, Instituto Público (IGESPAR), German "Institute for the Management of Archaeological and Architectural Cultural Heritage, National Institute", was a Portuguese authority that existed from 2007 to 2011. It performed the tasks of a monument authority, which has since been taken over by the successor authority ( Direção Geral do Património Cultural ).

history

Start-up

As part of a program to restructure the central administration of the state (PRACE), the government under Prime Minister Sócrates decided to merge the Instituto Português do Património Arquitectónico (IPPAR), which was previously responsible for monument protection , with the National Archaeological Institute ( Instituto Português de Arqueologia , IPA) and parts of the General Directorate of National Monuments ( Direcção-Geral dos Edifícios e Monumentos Nacionais , DEMN) to the newly established Instituto de Gestão do Património Arquitectónico e Arqueológico, IP . The restructuring took place in 2007/2008.

According to the law, IGESPAR should "be responsible for the administration, protection, conservation and appreciation of the goods which, through their historical, artistic, scenic, scientific, social and technical importance, form part of the architectural and archaeological cultural heritage."

In the course of the restructuring of the specialist monument tasks, IGESPAR was directly subordinate to the Portuguese National Library ( Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal ), the General Directorate of the Arts ( Direcção-Geral dos Artes ) and the General Inspectorate for Cultural Activities ( Inspecção-Geral das Actividades Culturais ), among others The Portuguese Cinema Museum ( A Cinemateca - Museu do Cinema, IP ), the Cinema and Audivision Institute ( Instituto do Cinema e do Audiovisual, IP ) and the Institute for Museums and Conservation ( Instituto dos Museus e da Conservação, IP ) are also affiliated to IGESPAR .

The Palácio Nacional da Ajuda was the seat of the IGESPAR and is also the seat of the successor authority Direção Geral do Património Cultural (DGPC)

The headquarters of IGESPAR was the Palácio Nacional da Ajuda , which was also home to the previous authority, IPPAR.

Another restructuring

In 2011, the government under Pedro Passos Coelho announced a further restructuring as part of the Plano de Redução e Melhoria da Administração Central do Estado (Plan for the Reduction and Improvement of Central State Administration; PREMAC) in order to streamline the task and organizational structure in the area . In the course of this, IGESPAR merged with the Instituto dos Museus e da Conservação (IMC) and the regional Direcção Regional de Cultura de Lisboa e Vale do Tejo in the new Direção Geral do Património Cultural (DGPC).
