ILO classification
The ILO classification ( International Classification of Radiographs of Pneumoconioses ) is a radiological classification published by the International Labor Organization (ILO) to classify respiratory diseases caused by various types of dust ( pneumoconiosis ). In the case of occupationally stressed persons, lung damage should be recognized early and assessed by an expert. Changes in the x-ray image of the lungs are recorded and encoded according to certain uniform principles. The current version is ILO-2000.
The aim is,
- to recognize pneumoconiosis in good time and to initiate therapy,
- to be able to estimate the extent of the lung changes and
- Detect complications early on.
The shape , size and spread or accumulation of shadows are registered and encrypted on the X-ray image. In addition, changes to the pleura , pericardium and the hilus of the lungs are recorded.
In order to guarantee a uniform diagnosis, there are reference films , verbal definitions and sketches that are published by the ILO in Geneva.
