The Open Collaboration Services (OCS) is an open and manufacturer-independent REST-based API for the integration of online communities and internet-based services in desktop and mobile programs. It allows the relevant data of a social network to be exchanged between the website and the client programs. As a client desktop applications or widgets possible locally on the computer or the mobile phone of the user running.

The API was designed by openDesktop.org as part of the social desktop as a backend . In addition, the API was adopted as the standard by the independent freedesktop.org project , which is why every website that integrates the OCS interface can be used as a provider of the social desktop.
