IMAX Munich

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The IMAX Munich was the first IMAX cinema in Germany .

history

It was built together with conference rooms, a café, art house cinemas and the planetarium in the Forum der Technik in the former congress building of the Deutsches Museum on the Museum Island below the Gasteig , near the Deutsches Museum . After financial problems, the IMAX Munich went bankrupt in early 2005 and had to cease operations on February 23, 2005. Since August 30, 2007, under the new operator, 3D films have been shown alternating with normal feature films. However, it was no longer an IMAX theater. The three cinema halls were then called forum cinemas.

As part of the general renovation of the Deutsches Museum, the cinema complex was bought back by the museum in 2009 and is being converted into a new entrance area for the museum. Together with the other cinemas still in existence, the IMAX cinema was closed at the end of June 2010. A replacement is not planned.

Furnishing

Cinema 1 had 329 seats; the auditorium rose steeply, as is usual with IMAX cinemas. Two digital DLP projectors with 2K resolution projected their image onto the 20 × 12 meter screen. The uncompressed PCM sound was generated by a digital 6-channel sound system with an output of 22,000 watts.
