IMPEL

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

IMPEL ( Implementation and Enforcement of Environmental Law ) is a voluntary network of the European Union and EFTA for issues relating to the implementation and enforcement of environmental law .

It is an informal network of the environmental authorities of the member states of the European Union and currently Albania , Iceland , Macedonia , Norway , Switzerland and Turkey .

Since it was founded in 1992, the network has developed into a platform for member states to exchange information and experience on issues relating to the implementation and application of EU environmental law. In various projects, questions of enforcement practice were dealt with and, in particular, the new member states were supported in establishing enforcement structures and instruments. The European Commission was also supported by IMPEL in many areas of enforcement issues, for example through the development of minimum criteria for environmental inspections, controls on cross-border waste shipments, and feedback and information on the enforcement of environmental directives, such as the IPPC Directive.
