The Institut national de la santé et de la recherche médicale (Inserm for short) is a research and development organization (EPST) under the responsibility of the Ministère de la Santé (Ministry of Health) and the Ministère de la Recherche ( Ministry of Research) of the Republic of France .

Founded in 1964, Inserm is the only French government research organization dedicated to human health. His research focuses on diseases, both common and very rare, biology, medicine and public health .

Its task includes:

  • Basic research,
  • clinical research,
  • Diagnostics and therapy,
  • Public health.

Assignment

Today 85% of INSERM's 360 research laboratories are located in university clinics or cancer research centers. The others are integrated into the research facilities of the Center national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) or into the Pasteur or Curie Institute .
